About the Programme

The programme will start late August/early September and will run until May 2009 following which you will then enter the Hunter Leaders Alumni programme. If successful you can expect a tailor made programme of first class experiences and support. We refer to a "bridge" programme and not a "gap " programme as a gap is something you can fall through whereas a bridge takes you to new, exciting places. We require significant commitment from you, however in return we will individually design a programme to mentally and physically challenge, expand your mind and push you well out of your comfort zones. As a previous Hunter Leader commented "it constantly tests you and pushes you so far out of your comfort zone that you won't remember what your comfort zone feels like anymore"

There are 4 key elements to the programme:

  1. Leadership: A tailored leadership "development" programme will give you the opportunity to start to investigate your leadership style and traits and your future plans. Throughout the year, you will come back to continue leadership training/development.
  2. Internships: Based on preferences, we will tailor internships to introduce you to word class leaders in your chosen employment field. These will stretch you beyond anything you will have ever encountered.
  3. Citizenship: We believe that to become a great leader, you need to give something back. Participants will spend 3 weeks at the Clinton-Hunter Development Initiative in Africa and will volunteer for 2 weeks at a UK charity of our choice.
  4. Alumni: Participants from each year will then form the subsequent alumni of the Hunter Leadership programme, ensuring ongoing opportunity for personal development and mentoring roles for participants.

In the words of Andrew Carnegie: "huge fortunes that flow in large part from society should in large part be returned to society." Leadership is about achieving an appropriate balance between give and take; without giving there can be no taking.

There will be a real mixture of individual and group activities throughout the programme. The group activities are designed to share ideas and explore the power of co-operation. These events will immerse the group in leading edge self development and give them a chance to soak up a wealth of peer wisdom and skill. Once the structured programme has completed, you will then join the on-going alumni programme, ensuring continued development for the future.

You will be allocated a personal mentor for the year from the previous years Hunter Leaders as well as a subsistence allowance, in recognition of the hard work that will be required throughout the year. The cost of the activities and all associated travel will be fully funded by the Hunter Foundation.
